Erik A. Hassing, Esq. graduated from Colby College in Waterville Maine in 1994 with a B.A. majoring in government. After college Erik gained experience in sales and management before he attended law School at Rutgers School of Law in Newark, New Jersey. Throughout law school he focused on litigation, serving on the Moot Court Board and being awarded the Myron H. Harkavy Scholarship for demonstrating potential as a litigator, while taking a broad curriculum to become a well rounded attorney. In addition to his courses Erik found time to work for United States District Court Judge Harold Ackerman, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office in Trenton, New Jersey, and a law firm that specialized in reinsurance litigation. After law school Erik served as a judicial law clerk for the Assignment Judge (the head trial judge) of Union County, New Jersey, the Honorable Edward W. Beglin. After his clerkship Erik served as an Assistant District Attorney for five years in Bronx County, New York where he was eventually assigned to the Investigations Bureau. In the Investigations Bureau he investigated and prosecuted complex economic crimes, insurance frauds, arson, and organized automobile crimes. After leaving the Bronx District Attorney's Office in 2005 he moved back to New Jersey and worked for Francis & Berry, a law firm specializing in the area of medical malpractice and personal injury defense. In 2007 he became an associate at Bell & Gage which subsequently became Bell & Hassing. At Bell & Hassing he practiced in the areas of municipal court and felony criminal defense, personal injury, municipal and county representation, employment law, real estate transactions, and estate administration.
In 2010 Erik joined with Kevin DeFilippis opening Hassing & DeFilippis, LLP. Erik has extensive trial experience and broad based legal knowledge to assist you with virtually any legal problem you may have.
Erik is married to his college sweetheart, Heide, and in his spare time enjoys home improvement projects, and playing with his two rescued dogs, a black Lab mix named Porter and a Doberman mix named Amber.
Kevin M. DeFilippis, Esq. graduated Cum Laude from Siena College in 2004. After a short stint as an Environmental Scientist with Golder Associates Inc. in Newark, New Jersey, Kevin attended Barry University Law School in Orlando, Florida. While in law school, Kevin participated in a Judicial Externship with a judge for the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court located in Orlando, Florida. He also was the President of the
Kevin and Erik joined forces in 2010 to form Hassing & DeFilippis, LLP. They believe that their combined knowledge and experience will achieve remarkable results for all of their clients. Centrally located, Hassing & DeFilippis, LLP can easily access the municipal and State Courts throughout Northern New Jersey. Hassing & DeFilippis, LLP is located almost equally distanced from the State Courts in Sussex, Morris, and Warren Counties.
